The New York Times recently did one of their 36 hour pieces on San Miguel de Allende. They offer fabulous advice about touring around San Miguel, where to eat and even a couple of hotel suggestions. Definitely check it out if you think you'd like to stay in the closest city to the wedding!
There's also an even older article on San Miguel from the Times, and as far as I can tell it's content is still relevant today. San Miguel is one of those rare cities that changes very little over time.
